Ask Joe: What can be done about cars, motor homes dumped in Sun Valley?
Friday's Ask Joe question: one of our viewers wants to know what can be done about a growing eyesore in his neighborhood resulting from illegal dumping?
Our viewer asked that we not use his name but he wants to know what can be done to clean up Quartz Lane in Sun Valley? He says there's an old motor home and whole lot of other junk that's dumped out there and he hasn't been able to get anyone to address it.
Here's what I found out:
Our photographer Luis went out and took a look for us. It's unbelievable how much junk has been left out there along Quartz Lane.. from mattresses to cars and motor homes, this area is a huge junkyard that's developed there in Sun Valley.
I checked with Bob Webb with Washoe County Community Services. He says part of Quartz Lane is privately owned and maintained but the county will check this out now that we've brought it up. They have had 17 complaints filed since 2013 specifically dealing with this area.
If you would like to file a complaint there is a special website the county has set-up for you to do that. It is www.onenv.us. You can log on and file your complaint by providing the specific address and other information and the county's code enforcement staff will check it out. The website also allows you to check back and find out the status of your complaint.
Once the county folks get out there and take a look we'll know more about what can be done about this specific situation. It will depend whether that is public or private property but I'll follow up and let you know what they say.
