Ask Joe: Have South Reno ice rink plans hit a snag?
From the Ask Joe file, after news this week that the Grand Sierra Resort is planning to open up a new ice rink, one of our viewers asked for an update on another rink that may be in the works.
Stan wrote in asking if developers are still moving ahead with plans for a new ice skating rink in South Reno.
This is a story we covered back in August, and at that time there was some frustration that Washoe County was not moving faster to approve the plans.
Developers for Reno Ice told us at that time they wanted to build two indoor rinks on six acres of land next to the South Valleys Library off of Wedge Parkway.
Reno Ice had put up the $40,000 to cover the county's planning costs back in 2015, but there is still no sign of any construction.
Where do things stand now? I did not hear back from the developer and Washoe County didn't have anyone available who could find out whether the project is still moving forward.
So the last time this went before the county commission was back in September. Four months later, it seems to be a little up in the air as to whether this project is still moving forward.
When we hear back we'll be sure to follow up then.
