Ask Joe: Do I have to re-register to stay on Do Not Call List?
Tuesday's Ask Joe question: Sheila in Fernley wants to know how often she has to re-register to remain on the active Do Not Call List?
Here's what I found out:
I checked with the Nevada Attorney General's office about this. They tell me there is no requirement that you re-register just to maintain your current status on the Do Not Call List.
There are a lot of myths going about Do Not Call and this is one of them.
The only time you would need to re-register is if your phone is disconnected and then reconnected for some reason or if you change your calling plan or if the billing name changes on your account for any reason.
Aside from that though your registration on the Do Not Call list will not expire and the Federal Trade Commission which oversees the list will not drop any numbers from the list.
Keep in mind being on the do not call list will not eliminate all calls. Charities, political organizations and surveys are still allowed under the law.
If you'd like to check out the website where you can register for the Do Not Call List, just log on to www.donotcall.gov. or call them at 1-888-382-1222.
Thanks to Sheila for bringing up that question!
