Ask Joe: Are police still investigating deadly Plumb Lane crash?
One of our viewers has written in asking about a crash back in June that claimed the life of a Reno teenager.
Bruce wants to know about the status of the investigation into the auto-pedestrian crash on Plumb Lane. He wants to know if police are still working on the case?
Here's what I found out:
This crash happened back on June 9th. It was the last day of school before summer break. 15 year old Katie Weingartner was struck and killed while crossing Plumb Lane near Krupp Circle.
We have been checking off and on with Reno Police for updates on this investigation and each time we've been told they were waiting on toxicology results.
Well those results came back and apparently there is some question about them because police decided to send some of the evidence back to the crime lab to be re-examined. They say they want to be fair and considerate to everyone involved.
"We want to make sure we not only show compassion for the victims family but also the family of any of the defendants who might have made a poor choice," said Officer Tim Broadway with the Reno Police Department.
Officer Broadway says there could be criminal charges filed either through the district attorney's office or the Reno City Attorney.
Thanks to Bruce for sending in that question. Remember if you have questions you'd like to ask, send me an email at email@example.com and just put Ask Joe in the subject line or you can contact me on Facebook at Joe Hart KRNV.
I'll do my best to track down the answers for you.
