Ask Joe: Why is Sparks post office becoming an eyesore?
SPARKS, Nev. (News 4) —
Some of our viewers have brought up a question about what may be a local eyesore: the post office on 4th Street in Sparks.
One of them is Len. He wrote in asking why are there so many overgrown weeds at the Sparks post office? He wants to know why they can't do a little more to clean it up?
Here's what I found out:
I stopped by to take a look at the post office in Sparks, which is right across from City Hall. The city says they have not received any complaints about the post office.
But as you can see in the photo above, there are definitely some overgrown weeds on the property.
I checked with David Rupert, the Postal Service spokesman for our area.
Rupert is in Denver and he said the Postal Service has just signed a contract with a new landscaper, and they are scheduled to get started this weekend, as a matter of fact, cleaning up the property. So good timing; it sounds like things should look a lot better there very soon.
Again, the main problem seems to be the overgrown weeds. Rupert says it was really just the lagtime between the old landscaper and the new company that caused the lapse in maintenance there.
But it's a very visible location, so its important to get it cleaned up, and that will be happening in the next few days.
