Oklahoma veterinarian removes 21 pacifiers from dog's stomach
EDMOND, Okla. (KOKH) —
Some things turn up in the oddest of places. An Edmond family learned that hard way after taking their 4-year-old Shar-Pei to the vet.
"You can see here; these are all of them stacked up on each other in the stomach,” said Dr. Chris Rispoli, a veterinarian at Gentle Care Animal Hospital. "In 20 years, this is the craziest surgery I've ever done."
Rispoli has been caring for Dovey since she was a pup. He says when her dad brought her Wednesday to be examined, he was immediately taken aback by her appearance; Dovey had clearly lost some weight.
"Dad said grandma had seen her jump up on the counter and grabbed one of the baby's pacifiers and they had been missing a lot of pacifiers,” Rispoli said.
An x-ray would later reveal Dovey knew exactly where those missing pacifiers were, leaving her family in disbelief.
"They were pretty stunned,” Rispoli recalled. “Because we thought there were seven to nine in there, and I pulled out 21."
It's an unusual case, but it comes with a simple reminder.
"Put things away,” urged Rispoli. “Don't leave them on the counter top.”
Dovey is set to return home to her pacifier proof home on Friday.
