Worker suffers major injuries after fall at Reno construction site

A construction worker working on a project across the street from the University of Nevada, Reno suffered traumatic injuries after falling nearly 50 feet on Monday.

According to Mark Winkelman with the Reno Fire Department, firefighters responded to a report of a man who suffered major injuries just before 1 p.m. on Mar. 20 at a construction site in the area of W. 15th and North Virginia streets.

Winkelman said the man was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where his condition is unknown at this time.

Officials say the man apparently fell near or down a stairwell that is under construction.

Nevada Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) spokeswoman Terri Williams confirms with News 4-Fox 11 that an investigator from the Reno office was on scene conducting an investigation.

The construction company who is contracted on the project does not have any affiliation with the University of Nevada, Reno.

News 4 has reached out to the east coast construction company for a statement.
