With standing water, Washoe County health officials start collecting mosquitoes
RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) —
Standing water and snow melt have health officials in Washoe County already gathering mosquito samples.
Officials with the county's Health District said they are collecting samples from some areas to test for West Nile Virus, Western Equine Disease, the Zika virus and other mosquito-borne illnesses.
The weather isn't warm enough yet for mosquitoes to be able to transmit most illnesses, officials say, so they are mostly a nuisance at this time.
