Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District closes burning immediately due to high winds
RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) —
In lieu of the National Weather Service issuing a high-wind advisory for the region, Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District has made the decision to close burning effective immediately.
Residents with burn permits who have been burning debris piles over the course of the past week are encouraged to ensure the piles are fully saturated and extinguished so that the forecasted high winds will not reignite embers.
Winds will increase early Wednesday, April 12 and will continue through Thursday.
Residents are subject to fines if they do not follow burn permit regulations.
TMFPD plans to re-open burning once weather conditions permit.
Prior to burning, people should call 775-326-6000.
