Treasurer Dan Schwartz warns Nevadans of unclaimed property scam
CARSON CITY, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) —
Nevada Treasurer Dan Schwartz is warning Nevadans about a costly unclaimed property scam.
According to a press release, the website www.neverclaimed.com wants Nevadans to believe you must pay a fee to retrieve your unclaimed property.
This, officials say, is not true.
In fact, the State Treasurer's Office works with everyone to return unclaimed property for free, according to the release.
Officials believe victims may have found the website through online search engines or in some cases through proactive phone calls coming from 866-955-1623.
“Our office is committed to returning unclaimed property to Nevadans at no cost to the rightful owners,” Treasurer Schwartz said in the statement. “Unfortunately, this world is full of bad actors who are more interested in lining their pockets than in helping you."
Nevadans can search for their unclaimed property by visiting NevadaTreasurer.gov or calling (702) 486-4140.
