A tornado warning has been issued after a confirmed funnel cloud was located over Lake Tahoe.

The National Weather Service in Reno says the warning is in effect until 4:45 p.m. Wednesday for Placer, El Dorado, Washoe and Douglas counties, along with Carson City.

Spotter photos confirmed the water spout made contact with the lake surface, according to the Weather Service.

Forecasters say there could be a damaging waterspout/tornado and quarter-size hail, and watercraft could capsize due to high winds.

The tornado could be near Carson City and Glenbrook, according to the Weather Service.

A severe thunderstorm warning has also been issued for Storey County, southern Washoe County, Douglas, northern Lyon and central Carson City until 5:15 p.m.
