A Sun Valley man is facing charges of illegal dumping after he was caught in the act by officers responding to a citizens tip, according to the Washoe County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities say at around 8:20 a.m. Thursday, May 18, the sheriff's office dispatch center received a call from someone who was witnessing illegal dumping in progress in open space along Chimney Drive northwest of Sun Valley.

There, officers located 37-year-old Brandon Kimpton, of Sun Valley, along with a large pile of green waste that had just been dumped from a trailer attached to the suspect's vehicle, according to law enforcement.

Kimpton was arrested and booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility on one misdemeanor count of unlawfully disposing solid waste (first offense). Kimpton will also be required to remove the illegally dumped debris, according to the sheriff's office.

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office wants to remind residents that any junk, garbage or debris left on public property, including tree branches, shrubs and grass cuttings, is considered illegal dumping.

Illegal dump sites may be reported through the WCSO APP, however illegal dumping in progress should be reported through dispatch by calling 911 or (775) 785-WCSO.
