Sparks police warn residents of online fraud following Craigslist scam
Sparks police are warning residents of online fraud after a recent scam that occurred on Craigslist.
On Friday, May 12, officers met with the victim of the fraud. The victim, police say, visited Craigslist.org and located a house for rent in Sparks. The victim communicated via email with the suspect for nearly a month before the victim wire transferred money to the suspect in order to rent the property.
After wiring the money, however, the victim did not receive keys to the house and the suspect would not return the money.
Sparks police officers say they spoke with the actual property owner and the owner confirmed that he has not placed an ad on Craigslist.org.
Sparks Police Department Detectives are asking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect. Anyone with information relating to this crime or the suspect should contact the Sparks Police Department at 353-2225, Secret Witness at 322-4900, www.secretwitness.com, or text your tip to 847411 (TIP 411) Keyword - SW.
Secret Witness is offering a reward in the amount of $250 for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the suspect.
