Sparks dispensaries gearing up for recreational marijuana

Each business will have to pay a one-time $5000 application fee, plus a three percent gross revenue fee each quarter. The fee will go towards the city's general fund.

Dispensaries in Sparks are ramping up for the start of recreational marijuana sales, which could be happening as soon as this weekend.

"To be honest, it's a relief. For months and years, we've been working towards this. To finally be a few days from opening, it's exhilarating," said Silver State Relief inventory manager Ryan Woolrich.

Following Monday's council meeting, the city approved the ordinance, allowing three dispensaries to apply for a retail license.

Each business will have to pay a one-time $5000 application fee, plus a 3 percent gross revenue fee each quarter. The fee will go towards the city's general fund.

Both Silver State Relief and Greenleaf Wellness plan to sell recreational marijuana starting Saturday morning.

Reef Dispensaries projects to start selling on August 1 due to distribution issues.
