Richard West II due in federal court in prescription drug operation case
RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) —
Richard Winston West II of the Jones-West Ford dealership will make his second appearance in federal court on Wednesday, May 11.
West II is one of nine people facing charges related to a prescription drug operation.
West II was not eligible for bond during his first hearing on Friday, April 29. The judge said he posed a "significant risk" of non-appearance and decided to keep him in custody.
The seven other defendants who appeared in federal court in Reno were eligible for bond.
Meanwhile, the Reno doctor charged as a co-conspirator in the operation will be transported from San Francisco after waiving a detention hearing, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.
Dr. Robert Rand has been charged by the U.S. Attorney's office for the district of Nevada with distributing oxycodone and other drugs illegally as part of a criminal conspiracy with a number of other people living in the Reno area. He was arrested in San Francisco on April 29.
