Reno's Resugence: Third Annual TEDxReno announced

RENO, Nev. ( & KRNV) -- TEDxReno, an independently organized TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) event, continues its mission to spread big ideas to Reno and beyond at its third annual daylong program of inspirational talks, themed this year around "Reno's Resurgence." The event once again features a roster of local and nationally- renowned speakers, and for the second year will be held at the Lear Theater (528 W. 1st St.) in The Reno Riverwalk District on Friday, October 2, 2015 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. An after party event will be announced in the coming weeks.

"Local TEDx events are an incredible way to incite real and lasting change in a community," said Doug Erwin, TEDxReno curator and Vice President of Entrepreneurial Development at the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN). "Our team, in addition to EDAWN and the entrepreneurial community of Reno are truly looking forward to creating an experience that involves many different facets of Reno's makeup, and brings speakers with new viewpoints that will serve to guide our city during this pivotal time in our growth and development."

Last year, in the spirit of inspiring big ideas and catalyzing change in Reno, the TEDxReno team chose the Lear Theater as a way to help citizens reimagine what the revived space could mean for the community. Curators for the event worked with Artown, the City of Reno, EDAWN, TEDxReno sponsors, partnersand volunteers to clear out the Lear and prepare it for the event.

The inside of the Lear will only be open for the event on October 2 before closing again to the public. Those interested in volunteering and/or sponsorship opportunities should contact Meghan Pescio at

Core to the TEDxReno event is the dynamic and diverse speaker lineup. TEDxReno curators are seeking locals and out of state individuals with big ideas to apply. Those interested can visit and follow the instructions to submit an application.

"A speaker for a TEDx event is one who brings something bigger to the table, something that will make our attendees sit up, think and feel empowered to make a difference in their own world," said Rory O'Brien, TEDxReno co-founder. "The goal here is to showcase hidden talent within Reno while motivating our fellow citizens to achieve greatness. It's important for everyone to realize they are a functioning part of society, and can make a difference just by taking action."

TEDxReno is one of three TEDx events in the Reno area including TEDxUniversity of Nevada and TEDxDavidson Academy. Ticket sales for the event will be announced in future months before the event. For more information visit or contact
