Reno River Festival kicks off Mother's Day weekend

The 14th annual Reno River Festival brings new and exciting challenges on the white water obstacle course from record winter season.

The 14th annual Reno River Festival officially kicks off summer and is expected to attract more than 40,000 people.

A record winter contributes to the high and fast flow of the Truckee River, which is flowing at 5700 CFS as of Saturday.

This year, professional athletes from all over the world, such as Great Britain, Sweden and Canada, have traveled to compete in one of the country's top-ranked whitewater courses.

Officials want spectators to remember the river can still be unpredictable and dangerous.

The free event, which runs May 13-14, offers a variety of activities ranging from live music, food and shopping.
