Reno couple takes a break from battling life's obstacles to celebrate the holidays
RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) -- Vietnam veteran Jim Bowman met his wife Linda roughly 40 years ago when she was a waitress at a restaurant in Napa, California.
In recent years, she was diagnosed with cervical cancer, rectal, and a third type cancer - a type of cancer that Linda is unable to recall. She has since undergone four rounds of chemotherapy, 65 days of radiation therapy, 338 days in the cancer ward at Renown and 27 surgeries.
Jim said that during the time that his wife was in the hospital, his own life would come to a screeching halt. And although Linda has tenaciously traveled a bumpy road to get to where she is, both she and her husband remain optimistic. Jim even believes that the doctors "got it right this time." and Linda says, "well, I'm here."
Their friend, Ken McCoy nominated the Bowman's for this year's Signature Landscapes Decorated Family Program, and when they found out they were selected to have their home decorated, Jim said that they felt blessed.
Between Jim's courageous fight in the Vietnam war and Linda's tireless fight against multiple forms of cancer, this is one holiday season they will never forget.
