Red Flag Warning issued for western Nevada, northeastern California on Monday
A Red Flag Warning has been issued for portions of northeast California and western Nevada for Monday, Sept. 18.
The warning is in effect from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. for gusty winds and low humidity, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
Affected areas include eastern Lassen County, California, the western Nevada Sierra Front, west-central Nevada Basin and Range and northern Washoe County.
Winds are expected to reach 15 to 25 miles per hour, with gusts of up to 45 mph. The strongest winds are expected to persist from early Monday afternoon into Monday evening.
Forecasters warn the combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause a fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity.
People are advised to avoid any outdoor activities that could cause a spark near dry vegetation.
A separate Red Flag Warning has also been issued through the National Weather Service in Elko from noon to 9 p.m. Monday.
