Police: Hours-long standoff leads to arrest of man in Sparks
SPARKS, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) —
A man is behind bars after an hours-long standoff with police in Sparks on Monday afternoon.
Officer Ken Gallop with the Sparks Police Department says detectives with the Regional Investigative Team attempted to contact 46-year-old Ameil Williams at a residence on La Via Way at approximately 1 p.m. on March 19.
Williams did not respond to investigators and remained inside the home. Investigators continually attempted to make contact with Williams but he did not respond, according to Gallop.
Due to the fact that Williams would not exit the home, SWAT was called to the scene to assist. Nearby residents were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
Gallop says the SWAT team detonated c/s gas inside the residence ultimately forcing Williams out.
Williams was transported to a local hospital to be treated for c/s gas exposure. He will be booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility on charges related to this incident and a prohibited person carrying a dangerous weapon in a concealed manner.
