Pill-mill trial postponed to July; motion filed to release Dr. Rand from jail
RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) —
Dr. Robert Rand's trial in U.S. Federal Court has been postponed to July 25, 2017, due to a key witness in the prosecution falling ill.
The Reno doctor was initially supposed to appear in court on April 25, 2017.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, a motion has been filed to reopen the detention hearing which could potentially allow for Rand to be released from the Washoe County Jail on multiple restrictions.
Dr. Robert Gene Rand operated Rand Family Care in Reno, and others illegally distributed and possessed prescription controlled substances, including oxycodone.
Officials say more than 500 oxycodone pills in 30-milligram dosages were illegally distributed for illegitimate medical purposes.
News 4-Fox 11 has reached out to Rand's attorney John Ohlson for comment, we have yet to hear back.
This is a developing story. Check back for details.
