NV Energy offering rebates for customers using solar energy

RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- NV Energy is now offering rebates for natural gas customers in Reno and Sparks who want to use solar energy to help heat their homes.

Solar space heating systems usually consist of solar collectors installed on a south facing roof or wall that concentrate the sun's energy to heat a fluid or air, and then transfer that energy directly into the home or into the home's ductwork. The systems generally use electric fans or pumps to transfer and distribute the heat, though some simply rely on passive solar energy.

Residential gas customers, along with small businesses, schools and public buildings are eligible to participate in the new program.

      Rebates amounts are as follows:
Residential - $14.50 per therm or the lesser of 30 percent of the system cost up to $3,000
Small businesses - $14.50 per therm or the lesser of 30 percent of the system cost up to $7,500
Schools - $19 per therm or the lesser of 50 percent of the system cost up to $30,000
Public buildings - $19 per therm or the lesser of 50 percent of the system cost up to $30,000

For more information about the program, applications, and a list of qualified contractors visit the RenewableGenerations page on NV Energy's website, www.nvenergy.com, or call toll free (866) 786-3823.
