NHP identifies pedestrian killed in crash on McCarran in Sparks
SPARKS, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) —
Nevada Highway Patrol has identified the pedestrian killed in a crash Friday on McCarran Boulevard in Sparks.
Trooper Dan Gordon said in a statement that 58-year-old Leeroy Jay Lutz of Reno was pushing a shopping cart across McCarran south of Prater Way from the west shoulder.
Lutz was struck by two different cars, Gordon said. Investigators believe a 2005 Ford Focus was heading south in the right-side lane and was unable to avoid hitting the victim.
The second car, a 1993 Nissan Altima, was also heading south when it hit Lutz, who succumbed to his injuries.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has any information is asked to contact NHP's Sgt. Karen Garretson at 775-687-9618 or firstname.lastname@example.org, NHP Case 171200100.
