Reno motel tenants furious over potential rent hikes
RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) —
The City of Reno is working out the details of a newly proposed motel inspection program.
It consists of several requirements, including an annual code inspection, linen service, crime-free training and background checks for managers.
Adding kitchenettes to this program is something that Reno code enforcement has been considering for some time.
Discussions between owners and code enforcement officials began Tuesday.
Samir Patel, manager of the Time Zone Motel, said he would have to raise rent to $1,300 per month if kitchenettes became a requirement.
He said that the cost to renovate the motel would be astronomical, and higher rent would help recoup the costs.
