( & KRNV) -- Officials from the Sparks Police Department, working with the Modesto, California Police Department have tracked down a kidnapping suspect in Sparks, thanks to the help of Facebook.

37 year-old Nicholas Wessel of Richmond, California is being held at the Washoe County Jail this evening. According to the Sparks Police Department, the Bay Area man convinced two female Modesto run-away teens to join him on a trip to Sparks on Tuesday.

Modesto Police officers were looking for one 14-year-old girl, when they came across her Facebook page. Investigators connected the missing girl to the second teen, and then linked the two to Wessel.

"We actually had contacted the social media site and asked for an emergency look up as to where they were connecting from," said Modesto Police Department Sergeant Ivan Valencia. "It gave us an IP address and belonged to the Nugget in Sparks."

That is when Modesto Police called Sparks and officers arrested the man just before 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

Officials say Wessel had non-consensual sex with the 14-year-old girl just before he was taken into custody.

After the arrest, police found a camera in a hotel room belonging to Wessel with illegal images of children. Some pictures found were of the 14-year-old victim, while others have not been identified.

Police said Wessel picked the girls up somewhere in the Modesto area. "Probably to connect with this 14-year-old, he was having communication with over the internet," said Valencia.

Sparks police officials said both girls are uninjured, and have been taken to the Jan Evans Juvenile Justice center in Reno. The Sparks Police Department is now taking the lead on this case.

Wessel is being held on one count of sexual assault, one count of production of child pornography, one count of possession of child pornography and two counts of kidnapping.
