If you plan on swimming the Truckee River at any point during the summer, you should make sure you do it safely.

The City of Reno's Parks and Recreation Department alongside with the Nevada Department of Wildlife have kicked off a cooperative effort to install a life jacket lending station on the west side of Wingfield Park in downtown Reno.

The station will provide life vests for swimmers who do not own one. The station will be on an honor code system, meaning if you borrow a life jacket, you return it when you are finished.

According to Lauren Ball with the City of Reno, the vests will not be placed along the river until the river is deemed less dangerous to swim in.
