1 dead after officer-involved shooting in Eldorado Casino in downtown Reno

One person is dead after an officer-involved shooting in downtown Reno on Thursday morning.

According to authorities, Reno police responded to a report of a robbery that had occurred in the area of West Street and West Commercial Row at about 10:40 a.m.

That's when the subject led them to the Eldorado Casino on a foot pursuit, said Officer Ken Gallop, spokesman for the Sparks Police Department.

During the pursuit, officers saw the suspect had a gun. When that person was found and confronted in the Eldorado, officers fired and killed the suspect. No bystanders or officers were injured.

At least two officers were involved in the chase, Gallop said, but much of the information on the shooting and what led to it could not be immediately provided. There was no confirmation if the suspect had fired any shots.

Investigators are interviewing witnesses to learn more about the lead-up to the shooting, according to Gallop, and authorities could remain on scene for much of the day.

The Regional Officer-Involved Shooting Protocol was enacted and the Sparks Police Department will lead the investigation.

A portion of the second floor of the Eldorado was closed off Thursday. A spokesperson for the resort declined to provide any comment.

Anyone who may have witnessed any police activity or the incident is asked to contact the Sparks Police Department Detectives Division or Secret Witness at 322-4900.
