CHP searches for driver involved in hit-and-run of a bicyclist in Truckee
TRUCKEE, Calif. (News 4 & Fox 11) —
The California Highway Patrol is asking for the public's help locating a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run crash that left a bicyclist with serious injuries on Monday.
Just before 2 p.m. on Aug. 28, Larry Ferguson, 58, was riding his bicycle eastbound on McKinney Rubicon Springs Rd., west of Bellevue Ave. at an unknown rate of speed.
An unknown gray mid-sized SUV, driven by a female. was travelling westbound on McKinney Rubicon Springs Rd., east of Bellevue Ave. going approximately 25 mph towards Mr. Ferguson.
The driver of the SUV slowed down and turned left onto Bellevue Ave. in front of the bicyclist. Due to the distance and improper turning movement by the SUV driver, Mr. Ferguson collided into the passenger side of the SUV.
Ferguson fell to the ground and struck his head, causing major injuries.
The bicyclist was flown to a Reno hospital via air ambulance with critical injuries.
An area search was conducted for the SUV involved, but police were unable to locate a vehicle matching the description.
