      Biker seriously injured after crash with pickup truck

      FERNLEY, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- On Tuesday, August 12, 2013 at around 12:30 pm, troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol responded to a crash that involved a bicycle and a pickup truck on Main Street (US 50 Alternate) in Fernley.

      The crash happened in front of the Villa mobile home park. NHP says 57-year-old David Bertroch from Fernley was riding his bicycle without a helmet westbound in the #1 travel lane on Main Street in front of a Chevy pickup that was driven by 52-year-old Carson Shockley, also of Fernley.

      For reasons undetermined at this time, the cyclist and the pickup truck collided and both vehicles came to rest blocking the #1 travel lane. Bertroch was transported by North Lyon County ambulance service to Renown Medical Center for serious head injuries. Shockley the driver of the pickup was not injured during the collision.

      Due to the circumstances surrounding the accident, no one has been placed at fault and no citation has been issued at this time. The accident is still under investigation.
