Attorney: Federal judge denies request to release Richie West Jr. from jail
RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) —
A federal judge has denied a request to release Richie West Jr. from the Washoe County Jail, according to West's attorney David Houston.
The retention hearing was held on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017.
According to Houston, Federal Magistrate William Cobb denied West be released to his family due to the lack of new information.
This is the fifth time a federal judge has denied the same request.
Richie West Jr. and eight others, including Reno Family Care physician Dr. Robert Rand, are involved in a high-profile federal drug case on charges of conspiracy and illegally distributing prescription drugs.
West was booked into the Washoe County Jail on April 28, 2016 and is being held without bail.
A federal trail is set for some time in April.
