Ask Joe: Can campaign signs stay up?

From the Ask Joe file, several viewers have written in with questions about campaign signs, which are still dotting the landscape.

One of them was C.P. in Sommersett who wrote in asking if there is a rule or ordinance that requires election signs to be cleaned up after the primary?

There are still plenty of signs up. When it comes to signs, there are different rules depending on which city or county they are in or whether it's an NDOT right of way.

Joe spoke to Washoe County's Planning Manager Bob Webb. He said they follow state election law, which says if you lose the primary, you have 30 days to take your sign down. If you win, you can keep it up through the general election.

So, you will still see some of those signs for another few months, but it should only be the people who are still in the race.
