Arrest in deadly Carson City hit and run


According to a news release from Trooper Barb Stapleton with the Nevada Highway Patrol, Troopers were called to a hit and run accident involving a pedestrian on Highway 50 at Airport Rd. around 11 p.m. last night.

The preliminary investigation determined that a black 1999 Ford Explorer was traveling eastbound on Highway 50 in the number one travel lane and for an unknown reason, a 27 year old female pedestrian was traveling southbound to northbound on Highway 50 east of Airport Rd. where there was no designated crosswalk. The right front of the Explorer struck the female pedestrian and for an unknown reason, the female driver of the Explorer left the scene of the accident without rendering aid. The female pedestrian sustained fatal injuries at the scene.

Stapleton states in the release that the Explorer was located at Pinecone St. and Amber St. in Dayton and was occupied by four people that included the driver, 48-year-old Dayton resident Cynthia Ann Munroe, a 15 year old male juvenile, a 14 year old female juvenile and a 10 year old male juvenile.

Monroe was taken to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office for a voluntary blood draw and was booked into the Carson City Sheriff's Office for Felony Hit & Run w/death and Driving while suspended.

The eastbound lanes were closed for around three hours while Troopers were on the scene investigating. The name of the victim won't be released until the Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office positively confirms the identity and pending notification of next of kin.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (KRNV & - The Nevada Highway Patrol has a suspect in custody after a fatal hit and run in Carson City late Sunday night.

The incident happened around 11:30 pm in front of the Whiskey Tavern on the 3400 block of Highway 50 East. Troopers say the victim was crossing the street when she was hit by a vehicle driven by 48-year old Cynthia Ann Munroe of Dayton. Munroe drove off after the accident but NHP was able to track her down a short time later.

According to Trooper Barb Stapleton, Munroe was arrested for hit and run, failure to report and leaving the scene of a crime.

She has not been charged with DUI, but did participate in a voluntary blood draw, according to Stapleton.

The name of the victim is not being released until next of kin are notified.
