1 dead, 2 charged with murder after shooting in Carson City

UPDATE: 4:44 p.m.
CARSON CITY, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- Two suspects have been booked on principal to murder charges in connection with a fatal shooting that was reported early Monday morning, according to the Carson City Sheriff.

Brothers Jesus and Allen Garcia-Manriquez, ages 18 and 19 respectively, were arrested after a SWAT team searched their home on the 900 block of E. Fifth Street, Sheriff Kenny Furlong said in a statement. A 17-year-old girl was also detained and later released to her parents.

According to Furlong, the sheriff's office found about $10,000 in cash and assort drug paraphernalia during their search, but no weapons.

The initial investigation suggests that the victim, identified as 18-year-old Grant Watkins, was trying to sell about 3 ounces of marijuana to the Garcia brothers, Furlong said. An event took place in the street at Windridge Drive near Scotch Pine Drive, but it wasn't immediately known what led to the shooting.

Watkins was taken to a hospital by a friend, but he was pronounced dead just before 2:10 a.m.

Both of the brothers were booked into Carson City Jail on charges of principal to murder and maintaining a drug house. Bail has been set at $250,000. Jesus Garcia-Manriquez is also held on an unrelated probation violation warrant.

Furlong said nobody involved in the incident was a resident of the area, and that the nearby public park "was not a determining factor."

The investigation is still "extremely active," according to Furlong. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 887-2014.
