Knowing Nevada: Reno working to move past Olympic runner-up reputation
Reno has a long history with the Winter Olympics, including several bids to host the games.
The first attempt happened in 1954 when the City of Reno went up against Squaw Valley.
Olympic author David Antonucci says Reno lost by no more than a single vote.
Jon Killoran with the Reno Tahoe Winter Games Coalition says the region was a runner-up to Salt Lake City nearly 4 decades later for the 2002 Olympics.
2030 is the next year the Olympics can be bid on for the United States.
Killoran says Reno, Lake Tahoe, Las Vegas and maybe even Sacramento can all come together for a regional bid for the 26th Winter Olympics.
