Nuggets Watch: Reno teen appears on 'Ellen' as he passes 3.1M retweets
The rivalry between a Reno teen and Ellen DeGeneres over #NuggsforCarter got personal on Tuesday.
Carter Wilkerson needs 18 million retweets to receive a free year's supply of Wendy's chicken nuggets, a quest that began earlier this month. His tweet has passed 3.1 million as of Tuesday afternoon, nearing the record of almost 3.4 million set by DeGeneres' Oscar selfie in 2014.
Ellen mentioned last week on her show that Carter's pursuit had her a little on edge.
"This kid is on my heels," Ellen said. "Carter, stop it right now -- you mess with the bull, you get the horns."
The two rivals finally met, with Carter appearing on Tuesday's episode of "Ellen."
"Why are you trying to sabotage my selfie?" DeGeneres asked.
"Y'know, honestly, I just want chicken nuggets," Carter answered.
Ellen asked people to retweet both Carter and herself, then presented the Reno teen with a brand new television and "Ellen"-branded underwear so he would encourage the world.
"If somehow you pass me, Carter, I will come to your house," Ellen said. "I will take that TV back, I will take the underwear back."
She then promised that if Carter can reach the 18 million goal, she'll have another gift in store -- with the caveat that her selfie remains on top.
