Winners announced for 24-hour mural marathon competition; Reno local wins 3rd

The winners of the 3rd annual Circus Circus Reno 24-hour Mural Marathon Competition have been announced, with a local artist taking home the 3rd place prize.

Joe C. Rock of Reno painted a black and white mural depicting Mark Twain to win third place in the competition. The winners were announced on Saturday, July 16.

Ryan 'ARCY' Christensen of Wallingford, Connecticut took home the coveted first prize with a painting of a parrot, and Rafael Blanco of Quincy, California came in seconds place with his street dancing painting.

Each artist received $750 for materials, but was responsible for his or her own equipment and labor.

The first place winner received $2,000, second place received $1,000, and third place received $500.

Three of the artists were Reno locals, and both alternates were from northern Nevada.
